The Performers Visiting our City

On May, Jefferson students attended the annual tour of The Performers Educational Plays.  This is a British  theater company which produces plays in English to assist English language teaching institutions.  It was founded in 1988.   Their main goal is use drama as a tool to support English learning and to connect students with the Arts.

Interview with the cast:
How many places have you visited?
We have visited Ecuador, Colombia, Brasil, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico. Next week we will visit Panama, and Costa Rica.
Do you enjoy performing for students and adults? What do you prefer?
We enjoy performing for everyone because everything is different, different performances, mood, humor, in general energy is always new.
Are all of your plays are from Shakespeare?
No, “The Tempest” is the only one, the other two are original from the owner of the company.
How long have you been with the company?
The two girls since November 2010, one boy for two and a half years, and other actor for a year and a half.
Why do you think theater is a good learning tool?
Because I think that when you write something on a paper it is really different from acting, because you get interested, you want to know what is happening, and you have to pay very much more attention, and you can have more fun; like when you get a joke in another language or any emotion, and also you are learning a language.
Do you all study theater?
No, only two of us.  The others study psychology and biology.
Don’t you think that many people did not understand the play?
Yes, sometimes you go to schools and they don’t understand the play completely.
What do you feel when you are performing?
We enjoy it a lot, we love it every time we are on stage.
And what do you think when people doesn’t understand?
Poor us… you have to be laughing, this is really funny and a few understand. But it is normal.
And we know we are doing a play for people whose first language is Spanish, so it is a great challenge.  We now they want to be with us and try to understand, so we have to be better and better.

Once more, The Perfomers Theater company visited our city and gave English learning schools a great performance.   It was an unforgettable theater experience that all bilingual schools show enjoy.  The plays were entertaining and worth attending.    Once “The Tempest” was over, it left us with the hope to see next year’s performance!
