UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY DEBATER VISITING HER HIGH SCHOOL
Alejandra Zavala Icaza, former Jefferson Debate Team, II place Interscholastic Debate 2007.
Alejandra is currently a member of the Novice Debate Team of the UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. She joined the debate team in 2011. Since her first debates, she showed great potential by winning several tournaments; furthermore, she was even appointed among the best 10 speakers. Due to her great performance, she was granted a full scholarship. She is currently studying PreMed, and in July she will achieve a degree in Psychology.
Last January, Alejandra visited her school and gave an encouraging speech to 10th graders and II Senior High students. In her speech she motivated her younger peers to study hard, to seek for scholarships, and to have faith in themselves. She also shared with them her experience as being the only foreign debater in tournaments. Students were welcome to ask questions and guidelines for searching college opportunities in the USA. After her speech she was interviewed by Adriana Cabrera Delgado, Senior Debater and by Emilio Leon Perez, timekeeper.
FORMER JEFFERSON DEBATER AT THE AMERICAN DEBATE ASSOCIATION NATIONALS
Alejandra Zavala and her debate partner Nicole Schladt competed on March 10-11 at the American Debate Association Nationals representing UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY Novice debate team.
They made it to quarter finals in a national tournament!
